Mercedes Lineup for the Techno-Classica

The very special year that is 2011 for German auto maker Mercedes will be filled, as you already know, with special events in honor of Karl Benz and his invention to take place throughout the year and throughout the globe.

One of the first such events in Europe will be the Techno-Classica 2011, an event which kicks off at the end of the month in Essen. There, Mercedes will probably manage to capture all the attention, thanks to the wide display of vehicles it will be bringing to the venue.

As it usually happens, it is likely the old vehicles will be more interesting for the viewers than the more recent ones. Mercedes knows this and it is planning to make the full out of its century-long history.

The stars of the lineup will be comprised of several unique vehicles, dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. The display will comprise the 1902 Mercedes Simplex 40 hp, the 1928 SSK (model series W 06), the 1934 500 K Special Roadster (model series W 29), the 1954 300 SL (model series W 198), the 1955 180 “Ponton” (model series W 120/121), the 1969 220 D “Stroke Eight” (model series W 115), the 1980 450 SEL 6.9 (model series W 116), the 1984 190 (model series W 201) and the 1997 SLK 230 Kompressor (model series R 170).

The cars of the new millennium will be represented by some of Mercedes' most stunning creations and by the models which will shape its future. Models like B-Klasse F-CELL will flood the Essen show in a display of might and power.

“These vehicles embody the high standards we set for classic automobiles of the highest quality with optimum value retention,” said Michael Bock, director of Mercedes-Benz Classic.
