BMW, China's Most Desired Brand

China, the land of new opportunities for auto makers, is proving to grow much faster in terms of taste than most would have believed. Unlike neighboring India, for instance, who still likes car models that wear a low price tag, China is becoming more and more addicted on premium and luxury goods.

Years of growth of the Chinese industry have created quite a market for these types of products. Brands like Rolex have been enjoying a great deal of success there for a long period of time, as have other producers of non-automotive luxury goods.

This is why having a car maker like BMW dubbed the number one name on the list of 100 products the Chinese want the most is a bit surprising. Not because the brand is not worth it, but because compared to other luxury industries that produce goods for the Chinese market, BMW is relatively a newcomer to the success lane.

According to Autonews, citing a study conducted by Hong Kong-based brand consultancy Clear Asia on 2,500 consumers in China, Chinese want BMW cars, Rolex watches and Apple gadgets, in that order. The other premium car brands competing with BMW on the Chinese market, Mercedes and Audi, are far behind, ranking eighth and 12th, respectively.

"BMW has a very strong and attractive brand personality in China," Oliver Cartwright, Clear Asia's regional managing director according to the source. "It's seen as sexy and confident, exciting and sophisticated."

The success of the BMW brand in the eyes of the consumers is not surprising at a global level, where the Germans occupy the third place, behind Apple, this time, and Google.
