Mercedes GP Signs Partnership with Allianz

What has been rumored for some time now has become reality, as Mercedes GP confirmed the signing of a new partnership with car insurance firm and long-time Formula 1 sponsor Allianz. The contract between the two parties was signed only for the 2011 season.

In addition to the fact that Allianz' logo will appear on the team's HANS devices and drivers' seatbelts, the two companies will also join efforts on a global road safety programme.

The announced deal doesn't come as a surprise to anybody really, as the tie-up has been previewed by the contract signed by Allianz exactly one year ago with Daimer AG, to become Daimler Financial Services' preferred partner for automotive and warranty insurance.

We are delighted to welcome our new partner Allianz to the Mercedes GP Petronas Formula 1 team as we begin our pre-season testing programme,” said Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn this morning, when announcing the new deal.

Allianz have been involved with Formula 1 for a number of years and have achieved excellent work in raising the profile of road safety through their marketing campaigns. Safety is absolutely fundamental in our sport and with every innovation that improves safety in Formula 1, there is the possibility of increasing road safety for drivers everywhere.

Also this morning, Mercedes GP has unveiled its 2011-spec challenger, the W02, with which they hope to become a force to be reckon with inside the Formula 1 championship.
