The president of Mercedes-Benz Canada, Tim Reuss, recently said that the adoption of European standards for new vehicles in Canada would bring more car models which are safer to the North American country.
“Are you really going to say that a car that has been deemed safe enough and environmentally okay for Europe is not environmentally okay and safe to be driven in Canada or vice versa?” said Reuss during a press conference.

As most of you know, there are a lot of Mercedes-Benz models which arrive much later or even not at all on the Canadian or American market because the vehicle safety regulations are rather different between the US/Canada and the European Union.

Reuss also said that if European standards would be accepted in Canada, Mercedes-Benz would immediately bring the A-Class or the Sprinter 4x4 there instead of delaying them until they are modified for the North American standards.

Currently, Canadian regulations pretty much match those found in the US, with only a few exceptions to the rules.
