The European 2014 Car of The Year Awards are well underway and the jury has cast a first conclusion, choosing seven finalists from the initial thirty candidates.
Mercedes-Benz started by having two competitors in the contest, with both the CLA C117 and the S-Class W222 being among the models eligible for the Car of The Year 2014 awards.
Unfortunately, the sexy CLA was left out of the final seven, with only the S-Class receiving the honor to battle for first place with the other six nominees, two of which are electric.
The jury will have a session of extensive tests with all the finalists in February, with the final vote and announcement of the 2014 Car of The Year to take place on March 3rd, 2014, at the Geneva Motor Show.
Though we would obviously be ecstatic if the S-Class goes all the way and wins the award, chances that it will are pretty slim looking at the type of vehicles who have traditionally won over the years. Then again, the only other Mercedes-Benz to ever win a European Car of The Year award was also an S-Class, with the W116 receiving the honor in 1974.
