Car enthusiasts are well aware that Mercedes-Benz used to be synonymous with quality, although it all went downhill in the 1990s with the introduction of the M-Class SUV. We also have to remember that suppliers can also make blunders that ultimately affect an automaker's image. Switzerland's EFTEC AG is a great example in this regard, for it shipped the folks at Mercedes-Benz a batch of adhesive with rather questionable material characteristics.
Safety recall number 23V-741 concerns a handful of 2024 model year Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 crossovers with insufficient adhesion for the stationary front, rear, and side windows. In other words, all windows may detach while driving, thus increasing the risk of a crash. The German automaker learned about said concern in September 2023.

After determining an irregularity with the window adhesive intended for the GLC, the manufacturer started investigating the matter with EFTEC AG. Both parties determined the barrel labeling process as being the root cause. The supplier filled a number of barrels with a different window adhesive from that written on the label.

Mercedes-Benz looked into production records to identify all potentially affected utility vehicles, discovering that a meager seven examples of the 2024 model year GLC 300 for the US market need to be fixed. The vehicles in question were produced between September 12 and September 20.

Thankfully for everyone, no warranty claims or field reports have been filed with Mercedes-Benz USA thus far. Dealers have been instructed to replace the affected windows instead of gluing them back to the body with the required adhesive. Owners will be notified via first-class mail no later than January 2. If you own a 2024 GLC 300, the easiest way of telling whether your vehicle is recalled or not is to run the 17-digit VIN on the NTHSA's website.

Considered a mid-size crossover in the United States of America, this generation of the GLC is joined at the hip to the C-Class T-Modell. Both the regular station wagon and the All-Terrain aren’t sold in this part of the world, chiefly because wagons don't sell as well as sport utility vehicles.

Codenamed X254 (make that C254 for the GLC Coupe), the rear-biased crossover is disappointing in one particular department. Piano black interior trim is one thing, but four-cylinder powertrains for every single version available is a bit of a downgrade from the previous-gen GLC. Remember the V8-engined 63 series? Now it's a four-cylinder turbo plug-in hybrid, albeit one fitted with a true AMG engine.

Rated at 671 horsepower and 752 pound-feet (1,020 Nm) on full song, the GLC 63 S E Performance is electronically limited to 171 miles per hour (275 kilometers per hour). Zero to 60 mph (97 kph) takes an estimated 3.4 seconds.

Lower down the spectrum, the GLC 300 is the most affordable of the bunch at $47,100 sans destination freight charge. If you want 4MATIC all-wheel drive, that would be $2,000 extra. The 300 is mild hybrid with 255 ponies to its name, whereas torque is rated at 295 lb-ft (400 Nm).
