Mercedes has opened the order book for the CLE Coupe in the United Kingdom. The model that retires the two-door versions of the old C- and E-Class is offered in four trim levels and with as many powertrain options.
The family comprises the AMG Line, AMG Line Premium, AMG Line Premium Plus, and Premier Edition. Pricing starts at £46,605 ($57,692) for the most basic version of the car, going up to at least £50,355 ($62,334) and £54,355 ($67,286) for the mid-range versions, respectively, and topping at over £56,855 ($70,380) for the flagship grade.
Choosing the AMG Line will get you 18-inch alloys, LED headlamps with adaptive high beams, 64-color ambient lighting, Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless charging pad, Parking Package with reversing camera, traffic sign assist, and blind spot assist. All models get the 12.3-inch digital gauges and 11.9-inch infotainment system.
Upgrading to the AMG Line Premium means that your CLE Coupe will come with 19-inch alloys, Digital Light LED headlights with high beam assist plus, keyless go, MBUX augmented reality, panoramic sliding roof, and the aforementioned Parking Package accompanied by a 360-degree camera system.
Riding on the 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, the AMG Line Premium Plus comes with the Energizing Plus Package that features climatized multi-contour seats at the front, premium audio from Burmester, and a head-up display. The Premier Edition tops the range with its black 20-inch wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, and heated steering wheel.
Mercedes says the CLE Coupe can be had in one of the eight colors available, including the Opalite White, Alpine Gray, and Patagonia Red that are the work of Manufaktur, the brand's customization division. Inside, customers can spec them in Power Red/Black, Tonka Brown/Black, Macchiato Beige/Black, and Black, with the top-of-the-line grade being available in Black, Tonka Brown/Black, or White.
Power-wise, it comes in the CLE 200, CLE 300 4Matic, CLE 450 4Matic, and CLE 220 d configurations. The former two feature a 2.0-liter four-pot that’s good for 204 ps (201 hp/150 kW) in the CLE 200 and 258 ps (255 hp/190 kW) in the CLE 300. The CLE 450 uses a 3.0-liter straight-six with 381 ps (375 hp/280 kW), and the CLE 220 d brings a 197 ps (194 hp/145 kW) 2.0-liter turbodiesel.
All engines feature the mild-hybrid tech and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The 200 and 220 d are rear-wheel drive, whereas the 300 and 450 pack the brand's 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Besides these powertrains, the first-ever Mercedes-Benz CLE will also be offered with a plug-in hybrid assembly "at a later date," which probably means that it will join the family sometime next year.
The automaker is already accepting orders for the CLE Coupe in the United Kingdom, where deliveries should commence shortly.
