Seeing that the BMW-owned brand MINI is quite popular, the Stuttgart based manufacturer, and long-time BMW rival, decided it was time to launch a proper competitor.
The rumored car would make an appearance somewhere around 2016, along with a small SUV and a 'four meter van'. The direct competitor for the MINI range will be positioned somewhere under the A-Class but above the Smart city-car.
Sources working for German website Focus, claim that the new model will be powered by engines with 1-liter or 1.5-liter engines, which would be perfect to compete with MINI's 1.6-liter engines.
The new X-Class will probably be launched somewhere in 2016, following the release of some new models from Mercedes-Benz in 2015, like the small GLA SUV and the new van, meant to compete with BMW's new models.
Whilst the GLA SUV will probably be priced somewhere around €22,000, the X-Class will, most likely, be cheaper and start near the €17,000 benchmark, in order to force MINI to also lower their prices.
