After reporting you that MB USA has posted its highest May sales in history a couple of days ago, it is now time to take a look at the global sales of Mercedes-Benz.
Somewhat expected, especially after the record-breaking 2013, the first five months of 2014 brought the best-ever sales numbers for the three-pointed star, as did the month of May alone.
In total, no less than 123,031 cars were sold to customers around the world this May, representing an increase of 10.4 percent compared with the same period in 2013.
Year-to-date, that translates into 641,384 Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold so far (+14.0 percent), or the highest number that Mercedes-Benz ever sold in a similar period ever.
“We have set another sales record by achieving double-digit growth in May,” said Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Marketing & Sales and ex CEO of Mercedes-AMG. “End of May we celebrated the international debut of the C-Class estate in Bremen – a vehicle that will particularly appeal to customers in Europe.”
The biggest sales increase was encountered not unexpectedly in China, where year-to-date numbers accumulated to an increase of no less than 41 percent, while May on its own saw increases of 30.1 percent compared with the same period last year.
In short, the only market where Mercedes-Benz didn't sell more cars this May was Japan, for some reason, where sales dropped by 22.4 percent last month. Despite this, year-to-date Japan sales are still rising, with the 23.179 cars sold representing an increase of 25.1 percent.
With a product offensive that is to increase in the following months with the addition of new model variants of existing cars, we think it is safe to say that 2014 will be yet another record-breaking year for the Stuttgart brand in terms of sales.
