Mercedes-Benz have announced that they expect their sales to rise by 5%, before the year is over, on their way to doubling sales by the year 2020. Their aim is to increase the combined sales figure of Mercedes-Benz and Smart to 2.6-million units by the same year, according to Dieter Zetsche, Chief Executive of Daimler, who spoke to Die Zeit.
He went on to say that the company will be implementing a cost-cutting policy, with the aim of slashing some €2-billion-worth of spendings, over the next two years - the aim is to not have to cut jobs in the process. This is the short-term plan, en-route to their larger goal of becoming the world’s largest luxury automaker, and considering the fact that last year they sold 1.26-million cars, which is just 120,000 units behind BMW.

However, over the last 10 years, their sales only rose by 1.4%, while BMW recorded a 6% rise and Audi managed an even better performance - 7.4%. Now, with the new and desirable A-Class, which is their most affordable offering, sales are bound to grow quicker than they have done before.
