In order to support National Teen Driver Safety Week, which will take place October 20-26, 2013, the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy (MBDA) has joined forces with Impact Teen Drivers, the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department.
The annual Safety Week was instituted to promote driving safety for teens, with a focus on seat belt use, distracted-free driving and reducing the chances that adolescent drivers get access to alcohol or other driver-impairing substances.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the number one cause of death for teens aged between 15 and 20 is a car accident, with chances for adolescents to have a significant crash in their first year of driving being four-times than an adult.
17-year old and two-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas paired up with the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy to raise awareness about teen driver safety. Considering she just took her driving license, she will enroll in the MBDA driver education and training programs as well, along with being a spokeswoman for the campaign.
Opened back in 2011, the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy is the first international teen driving school, so if there are among you who would like more information about it you can check out
