While the Maybach-branded G650 Landaulet may be the most opulent of the G-Class family, the G63 and G65 Exclusive are the models that indirectly pave the way for the next-generation model. Until the W464 goes official in 2018, the three-pointed star took to the Frankfurt Motor Show to reveal what makes the two AMG-ified utility vehicles more special than the regular W463.
The AMG monza grey magno matte paint is exclusive to the…uhm, Exclusive Edition, though the automaker exhibited a white-painted G63 at the German show. It still looks the part, optional 21-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and all. AMG racing stripes, stainless steel underride guards, rub strip inserts finished in dark aluminum, and the spare wheel cover painted in the body color round off the aesthetic treatment of the gentle giants powered by V8 and V12 mills.
The Exclusive Edition is special on the inside as well, with the high-quality interior bristling with two-tone leather upholstery. AMG Sport seats wrapped in design nappa leather are in the offing, and customers can optionally specify the side bolsters in black carbon leather. With diamond patterns emphasizing the luxurious feel of the cabin, the limited-run G63 and G65 can be finished with genuine carbon fiber or black design piano lacquer trim on the dash.
Options designed to up the ante of the Exclusive Edition are available through designo manufaktur, and the list includes two-tone AMG Performance steering wheel, leather on the grab handles in the headliner, and red seat belts. It’s no wonder, then, the Exclusive Edition G63 starts at €163,125. The G65 is sensibly more expensive, with the retail price kicking off at €287,658.
Under the squared-off body shell, the Exclusive Edition doesn’t differ at all from the standard G63 and G65. In the V8 corner, the venerable 4x4er boasts 571 PS (563 hp) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque from 1,750 to 5,250 rpm. The V12-powered range-topping model, on the other hands, produces 630 PS (621 hp) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) from 2,300 to 4,300 rpm. Both variants come as standard with the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic.
