McLaren Group CEO Mike Flewitt recently made it clear that the company won’t jump the SUV bandwagon. While we’re more than thankful for that, we can’t hide the fact that we’d like to see McLaren’s engineering embedded in somebody else’ s SUV.
We’re referring especially to the powertrain here - just think at the way in which the MP4-12C battles the Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo without a limited slip differential. The British supercar only relies on electronics and the result is ultra-light and ultra-fast.
Not only could McLaren help another carmaker’s SUV be lighter, but it could also tweak the vehicle so that one wouldn’t feel its mass. Some may not agree with us on this, but we’d love to drive something with all-terrain abilities without having to feel its massive stance at all times.
