Earlier today, the upcoming P1 supercar that McLaren has been developing for over a year now made a short appearance at their famous Technology Centre. The car was driven in the company of the MP4-12C Spider by 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button.
If the MP4-12C proved something, it's that this engineering company can challenge the establishment. This new model uses the same twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine block, but will produce lots more power thanks in part to race engine technology, but also to an F1-style KERS system.
The car was shown at the launch event for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 2013 Formula 1 challenger, the new MP4-28.
"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez arrived at the event in a 12C Spider finished in heritage McLaren Orange, while his teammate followed closely behind in a camouflaged XP prototype version of the McLaren P1™. These two models brought proceedings fully up-to-date as they joined a spectacular grid of racing cars showcasing the brand’s history, and kicked off a year of 50th anniversary celebrations," McLaren says.
