McLaren Automotive’s 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 engine has won the 2013 International Engine of the Year awards in the 3.0-liter to 4.0-liter category, becoming the first new winner of the prize for five years.
Fitted in the 12C and 12 Spider models, the M838T engine delivers 625 HP and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque, while having an impressive fuel efficiency rated at 24.2 mph (11.7/100 km).
“It is a real honor to collect this award, and is credit to all at McLaren Automotive for the hard work and dedication to the 12C project. We set ourselves ambitious targets with the M838T engine driven to produce a no compromise unit that was powerful yet refined, compact, lightweight, responsive and efficient,” said Mark Vinnels, head of powertrain programs at McLaren Automotive.
Ford, Peugeot and Ferrari have also been awarded at this year’s International Engine of the Year accolades. Ford won with its 1.0-liter EcoBoost, Peugeot was rewarded for the 1.6-liter “Prince” engine, while Ferrari’s 6.2-liter V12 mill won the Best Performance Engine and Above 4-liter Engine categories.
