At the beginning of the year, McLaren announced something called the "Sports Series" by showing a sexy carbon fiber tub. So why wasn't the 570S called "Sports Series" when it entered production? Because it was the first of a whole series of cars based on that chassis.
We're now looking at the second one, or the third if you also count the 540C entry-level model.

It's been spotted for the first time today, and while many believe that the swirly camouflage hides a 2+2 body, we're not so sure about that.

What we can tell you for sure is that, compared to the standard 570S model, this new model features a fastback design for the rear area. The old carbon fiber engine deck (actually, that's an option) has been replaced by a rounded piece of glass. Either this is used directly as an engine cover, as in the case of the Audi R8, or it's a hatchback like on the Porsche Cayman.

While we can't rule out the possibility of a 2+2 configuration, the firewall on the 570S is right up against the back of the seats. More room only appears around your shoulder area. So even as a 4-seater, this new McLaren would only have a token area for rear passengers, a bit like the Lotus Evora.

An additional storage area could help this McLaren model compete with models like the Aston Martin Vanquish. So far, all the cars made by the company have been vicious ones meant to dethrone Ferrari. However, the nicer interior of the 570S proves McLaren is headed in a different direction.

Interestingly, this fastback design was also used by the original P13 prototypes that emerged before the 570S was revealed. You can check out our spy photos from way back in December 2014 for proof. Despite this, McLaren went with a vertical concave rear glass… and so the plot thickens!
