Come 2022, Mercedes-Benz will have unveiled a total of six new EV family members for the EQ sub-brand. As far as we can tell, the first to come rolling down the red carpet will be the little EQA, scheduled for a January 20th appearance in front of the battery-loving crowd. But before we get to see the crossover in its entirety, let’s have a look at the EQS’ new MBUX (Mercedes Benz User Experience) Hyperscreen.
The German automaker just threw out in the air (quite literally, check out the gallery to see what we mean) the dashboard of the flagship EQS fully electric limousine. After all, we’re just days away from the first-ever digital edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is scheduled between January 11th to 14th.
Mercedes-Benz is going there virtually with the newly introduced MBUX Hyperscreen, so there’s even a slight chance for the entire EQS to go with the dashboard. If not, we’re just going to have to contend with this “emotional intelligence of the all-electric upper-class model,” as the company so poetically explains.
For the slightly more level-headed, the MBUX Hyperscreen is the new curved screen unit that makes up the digital dashboard of the upcoming EQS. It’s the latest installment in the MBUX saga which kicked off alongside the latest A-Class back in 2018 and just premiered as a second-generation setup inside the all-new S-Class.
Now it’s making another jump forward, fusing analog and digital elements into one (arguably) seamless package – cue the several displays and the turbine-styled air vents at either extremity. As far as the frame is concerned, the plastic is styled in “Silver Shadow,” while the screens employ the latest OLED technology.
Even the passenger gets some OLED real estate out of the total of 141 cm (almost 56 inches), so no one is left out from the connected party; Mercedes-Benz also deploys haptic feedback for better real-world feeling during operation, while artificial intelligence is present to further the experience.
Now for the nerdy stuff. There’s both a multifunction camera and a light sensor to accurately measure the ambient conditions and adapt the brightness of the screens, while the MBUX interface uses help from eight CPU cores, 24 gigabytes of RAM (!), and a RAM memory bandwidth of 46.4 GB per second, among other specifics.
