Mazda2 Coupe Rendered: Because Why Not?

Mazda2 Coupe Rendering 1 photo

Ever wondered what the Mazda2 would look like as a long coupe? We didn't since we most associate its name with a plucky, cute Japanese supermini based on the old Fiesta.
But the Japanese company has been selling sedan versions for a very long time and a new model was just revealed in Thailand. That car has served as the basis for this rendering, which depicts the baby Mazda as a long, sleek 2-door coupe. Not bad!

Graphics manipulator Theophilus Chin has had to chop the roof a bit, remove the rear doors off and lengthen the front ones. Still, he didn't have to do that much to the front fascia because the designers have done such a great job. This is one of the best looking cars in the segment, right up there with the Ford Fiesta.

Will there ever be a coupe version of the Mazda2? Probably not, since the market case doesn't make much sense. The loss of practicality and headroom in the back of the car will scare away most buyers. But the car itself makes more sense than you think.

Mazda has not only built the biggest 2 ever, with a wheelbase the size of a compact's, but it's also added more premium features. There's a head-up display available, a six-speed automatic gearbox and Japan, even all-wheel drive.

The coupe would have been a great spiritual successor to the MX3. They don't make 'em like that anymore – we find ourselves saying these words lately. Has the young generation really grown out of cars that look cool and drive well, like the old Ford Puma. We hope not.
