After seeing multiple spy photos of the future Mazda Miata / MX-5 it seems that we will be getting a partial reveal of the vehicle at next month’s New York Auto Show.
Mazda is expected to display the car’s platform in New York, with company sources confirming this to autocar. At the moment it is unclear how many of the car’s features will be placed on the chassis, if any.
As for the release date of the actual car, Mazda has yet to make an official announcement. Previous reports indicated the MX-5 / Miata would arrive at the Chicago Auto Show, the same place where the model was born 25 years ago. Nonetheless, it seems the plan was put aside as it didn’t fit the vehicle’s overall release schedule.
You may remember that Mazda’s MX-5 was supposed to share quite a lot with a future Alfa Romeo model, but, as it turns out, the plan may change. The aforementioned source explains that Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne used the Geneva Motor Show to explain that a two-seater sports car would by more suitable for Abarth rather than Alfa Romeo. Nonetheless, this somehow comes to contradict a previous Abarth statement that indicated the company wouldn't be releasing a new model too soon.
