Mazda has announced that production of the diesel-powered CX-5 crossover has begun at their Ujina factory in Japan, which is located near the Hiroshima headquarters. The car will thus soon hit the Japanese and European markets, and is expected to make the trip to US shores next year.
This is the first brand new car to be powered by the Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine. This comes in two flavors, either the base 150 hp or a more powerful 175 hp. The more powerful version can sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.2 seconds and should do 18.6 km/l on the combined Japanese cycle (43.7 mpg).
We will remind you that the CX-5 is also available with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produces 165 hp. Let’s hope the CX-5 goes ‘Zoom Zoom” off the dealers’ lots.
