In order to continue its long-time tradition in motor sport, the Italian carmaker will debut the new GranTurismo MC in the GT4 European Cup. The new racing version originated from the GranTurismo MC Concept Maserati introduced last September at Monza.

The car is based on the Maserati GranTurismo S road version, but features an electro-actuated transmission. It will be available for sale from November 2009, at a specified price tag of 135,000 euro + VAT. This could prove an ideal purchase for the teams looking to take part in the GT4 European Cup or other national series.

The Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 will debut on track at Spa and will be driven by Lorenzo Case and Cedric Sbirrazzuoli. For Lorenzo Case this will be a return behind the wheel of a Maserati, as he won the 2007 Italian Championship GT.

The 21-year-old Cedric Sbirrazzuoli from Monte Carlo, however, will be driving the Maserati for the first time. During the testing period, Andrea Bertolini made sure the car was setup properly for a responsive drive.

With an impressive racing history including two consecutive wins at the Indianapolis 500 back in '39 and '40, two F1 world titles with Juan Manuel Fangio in '54 and '57 and many other endurance race victories, Maserati believes that track is the best place for developing great cars.

Races were always regarded as the most demanding test-benches where reliability and performance are checked and new technologies can be evaluated.

The free practice session will start this Thursday, while qualifying and race 1 will be held on Friday. Races will last for about 40 minutes and the second race will take place on Saturday.
