Manhart basically took everyone by surprise when they unveiled the MH4 550 car at the Essen Motor Show late last year. That’s because nobody expected it to be so powerful and so outrageously good looking. However, they did deliver and their crazy machine was up on display on the show’s floor.
Even so, we never did get a chance to drive it or listen to its new, monstrous engine so far. We looked at it, touched it and drooled over it but we didn’t get any hands-on experience so we were rather intrigued as to how it would fare in real life. As it turns out, not so great...
The guys from Option Auto apparently got in touch with the German tuner and managed to get some shots of the car in real life and record its exhaust note. For M enthusiasts that’s one of the most important parts of a car, without which they simply cannot live without.
Now, the MH4 550 has all the right numbers in all the right places but somehow its exhaust is not really up to par with what we expected. Call me crazy but I think that simply making a car louder doesn’t mean it sounds better. It’s just.... noisier.
Other than that, there’s little to say about the tuner’s creation. Their M4 has 550 HP and 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) of torque coming out of the 3-liter twin-turbo engine under the bonnet, numbers that are simply mind-blowing if you think about the 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) the stock model has.
On top of that, it will also receive new KW Clubsport springs and M5 brakes along with the aforementioned exhaust and some small visual tweaks.
The question in my mind is: how will you ever control that amount of power in a car like the M4 with RWD? It was hard enough keeping control in the stock car when we reviewed it, let alone in this shape and ‘size’...
