Taking the BMW M4 to 524 HP Seems Complicated via an ECU Flash at Mcchip-DKR

We’ve seen the M4 taken up to extreme levels of power before, even by the guys from Mcchip-DKR that are back, this time showing us a glimpse into the process. The result of their efforts? 524 HP and 687 Nm (506 lb-ft) of torque out of the S55 plant.
Now, this might seem like an easy task, since most tuners out there offer such packages but it’s really not that simple. As you can see in the photos posted by the tuner, you have to take off a couple of parts to get to the ‘brain’ of the car.

The end result is all that matters though, since you won’t be reflashing your car’s ECU by yourself but will have specialized people do it for you. Comparing the stock figures with the ones returned on the dyno after Mcchip DKR was done with the car, leaves room for speculation.

What they appear to have done here is an ECU flash that wasn’t possible not too long ago due to an extremely potent firewall put in place by the manufacturer to protect its cars. It would seem like the rumors that have been going around, claiming that the code has been broken are true, if we’re to judge by the photos posted by this tuner.

In standard guise, BMW claims that the S55 3-liter inline 6-cylinder biturbo mill will make 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. However, independent vendors showed that those figures are more likely to be put out at the wheels rather than at the crank.

Either way, the Mcchip DKR model shown here managed to show us that 500 HP are easily obtained along with torque levels on par with the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 in the M5.

It’s also worth noting that this particular M4 was decked with some M Performance parts like a new front splitter, kidney grilles, side skirts and center diffuser for the rear bumper, all of them made of carbon fiber.
