Do you know that feeling when you're really in a hurry, so you pimp your car to look like an ambulance, and then drive like crazy through traffic? Well no, of course, you don't, your mind could never come up with something like this, let alone give your body the order actually to put it in practice.
Not all men are created equal, though, so this is exactly what Shaun Scandle, 31 years of age, did. He looked at his white Renault Megane estate and came up with a plan that not only would make it look much better, but it would also help him with the whole busy traffic situation.
A few patches of colored wrapping later and his car looked just like an official UK ambulance. But it was still missing something: a set of flashing blue lights and a siren, so he covered that as well.
To his credit, the man was only half-lying. Shaun was running a business called Hadrian Medical Services that offered first aid at events. The media caught up with Shaun's antics only just now, but the man was caught thanks to a series of recordings from September 9 when the fake doctor driving the fake ambulance was rushing to assist with the Tour of Britain cycling race.
The incriminating footage shows Mr. Scandle driving erratically, moving cars aside to allow him to pass and - the thing that ultimately brought his demise - forcing his way through the Tyne Tunnel entrance. The tunnel staff felt something wasn't right, so they called the police who checked with the North East Ambulance Service and found out that none of their vehicles was reported in that area at that time.
Shaun Scandle pleaded guilty to careless driving, so he walked away with a £1,000 fine and nine penalty points. Even though the report in the Mirror doesn't state it explicitly, you can imagine Shaun's Renault Megane was returned to its plain white original state.
