What do you do if you accidentally lock yourself inside the cargo bed of the Tesla Cybertruck? Someone found the only way out. You need to know this trick to be able to free yourself from inside. You can also find it out if you browse through the owners' manual.
The cargo bed of the Tesla Cybertruck is six by four feet and can haul up to 2,500 pounds (1,134 kilograms). If you want to place items inside the cabin, you might need to stretch or even climb up into the cargo area and put them there yourself. But what happens if the tonneau cover accidentally slides back closed, and you end up trapped inside the bed?

It was Jeremy Judkins the one who ran the experiment. He got up there barefoot and pressed the button at the back that closed the tonneau cover.

His scenario, probably made for the sake of clicks, sounded way more complicated than it actually was. It was 4 AM when he "accidentally" (not!) locked himself inside the cargo bed. He did not have his phone with him, which made it even more difficult because there was no way he could ask for help from outside.

The flashlight of his smartphone would have helped in there as well. Once the tonneau cover closes, the LED light bars inside the bed turn off because, supposedly, luggage does not really need any light, so you find yourself in complete darkness. Jeremy says there is no indication regarding any method to come out of the closed bed.

There is a small partition glass between the bed and the cabin that allows light in. Sort of, actually, because the experiment took place at night. But that is no way out. The only chance to get out of the closed cargo bed sits at the opposite end, on the interior of the tailgate. There is a plastic lid in it that shelters two red pull straps.

Once you pull those two red straps at the same time, the tailgate opens, and you are free. Jeremy Judkins tells his TikTok viewers that if they ever get trapped inside, they can recharge their devices. As if anyone would just lie down inside with a phone, tablet, or laptop and a charger and start charging them.

He also says that a compartment in the floor of the bed can store snacks and drinks. It is always good to have provisions at hand, but the last thing you'd do if you are trapped inside is snack.

One more thing you have to know is that the tonneau cover can withstand up to 300 pounds (136 kilograms). So you can surely use it as a support when you load the bed of your Cybertruck just to prevent falling inside, accidentally pressing the button that closes it, and not being able to step out in time.

To prevent accidents, the Cybertruk owners' manual points out that no people and pets should be inside the bed at any time because doing so can result in serious injuries or death. The manual also shows a photo of the tailgate emergency release. But the tailgate can be opened only when the vehicle is parked. However, the tailgate should never be shut when a person is inside.

As of 2001, all passenger cars marketed in the United States are required to feature anemergency release in the trunk or cargo bed, which should be illuminated so that it can be seen in the dark. It seems that Tesla must do something about the visibility of those straps.
