Mallya Not Troubled by Potential Mercedes Quit

Force India's part owner Vijay Mallya said he is not worried about a potential F1 quit from German manufacturer Mercedes. The Indian billionaire revealed his contract with the aforementioned car maker is to expire at the end of 2013 and he sees no reason why the agreement would not be followed through.

We have a five-year contract with Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines and I don't see any reason why that should not be fulfilled,” Mallya was quoted as saying by German site motorsport-magazin.com.

As announced by several sources within the German manufacturer, Mercedes are to discuss a revision of their Formula 1 programme in the weeks to come. However, the same sources said that, while possibly not continuing as a works team, Mercedes will continued to be engine suppliers for their current partners.

I have no knowledge of the internal situation, but I have no doubts that Mercedes will fulfill the contract,” added Mallya.

Force India switched from Ferrari power plants to Mercedes ones at the end of 2008, as they were unhappy with their initial collaboration with the Scuderia. As part of team's new agreement with the German manufacturer, Mallya's outfit will also benefit from Mercedes-built KERS units.

As reported by several media last week, although Mercedes are considering leaving the world of Formula 1, they are very serious on becoming sole Kinetic Energy Recovery System suppliers for the series from 2010 onwards. Only Mercedes and German rivals BMW have so far announced their desire to collaborate with the FIA on this matter.

Until then, Mercedes is yet to make a public statement on their future plans in F1.
