Lorenzo Uncertain of 2011 Ride in MotoGP

After Valentino Rossi, now Jorge Lorenzo issued an ultimatum of his own to his current team Fiat Yamaha Racing. The 2-time world champion in the quarter-litre class and currently vice-champion of the MotoGP series announced that his initial plan is to stay with the Japanese manufacturer, but hinted that he “can't guarantee anything” for the future.

His declaration surfaced in the media via Spain's Europa Press Agency, following an alleged special dinner in Barcelona. The Spaniard said that he sees his future – as least as far as the 2011 season is concerned – with Yamaha but couldn't put his finger on anything just yet.

Lorenzo has been one of the most promising rookie riders competing for the Japanese manufacturer in the modern era of MotoGP racing, but still hasn't managed to convince the FIAT Yamaha team to extend his deal from 2010 onwards. His current contract is to run out at the end of next year, at the same time with Rossi's.

However, it's no news that Rossi and Lorenzo are not exactly the best of friends, so we project Yamaha will have to choose between the two midway through 2010. Of course, we might have come to that conclusion after Rossi publicly asked his team to take their pick for the 2011 season, or else a fruitful deal is waiting for him at Ducati just around the corner.

What's notable is also the fact that Honda's Dani Pedrosa is also to end his current contract with the Japanese bike maker at the end of 2010, and he publicly criticized the performance of his bike in recent years. Honda did have some contacts with Lorenzo before the Spaniard signed a one-year extension with Yamaha this year, and may be inclined in pursuing him for a 2011 deal.
