Lorenzo to Miss All Testing Prior to Qatar GP?

Jorge Lorenzo's bad luck might be bigger than initially projected, as it seems the Spanish rider is looking at the prospect of missing the entire testing action prior to the start of the new MotoGP season.

Last week, we have reported to you that the 2009 runner-up sustained a hand injury during a motorcross training session, which led to an immediate medical intervention in a Barcelona hospital. The doctors' verdict was grave enough, as the Spaniard was fitted with a hand protection for the upcoming 6 weeks.

Although FIAT Yamaha Team hoped the injury could get better sooner rather than later, it now surfaced in the media that Lorenzo might actually take a longer time to get better than initially predicted. Meaning he'd not only miss the Sepang testing session next week, but also the one in Qatar one month from now.

At the moment there are serious doubts as to whether Jorge will be fully recovered for the Qatar test. We must wait and see how his injury and rehabilitation go after he has his stitches removed, which will be next Friday or Monday,” Lorenzo's spokesperson Hector Martin was quoted as saying to the MotoGP official website.

If this will indeed be the case, Lorenzo might be forced to race during the season opening round at Losail International circuit with only 3 days of testing his new Yamaha bike under his belt. Under the new rules of the MotoGP, testing prior to the start of the season has been reduced to only 3 meetings (two in Malaysia and one in Qatar).

The 2010 MotoGP season opens in Qatar, on April 9.
