Lorenzo Saddened by Stoner's Absence

Less than one day to the official start of the Czech Republic Grand Prix, Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo revealed he is saddened about Casey Stoner's 3-race absence from this year calendar. The Australian is suffering from fatigue-related problems and will take the next 2 months off racing, therefore losing any chance to continue his title fight against both Lorenzo and reigning MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi.

Although now having only Rossi to worry about in the title fight, the former 250cc champion admitted that seeing Stoner on the sidelines does not make his racing days more interesting. On the contrary, having a tough opponent that would normally push him at his best on the sidelines will only make it harder for him to race at his full potential.

For me it is not good news that Casey can't ride in the next three races because to fight with him is always exciting. He is very talented and he has a very brave attitude. It's disappointing for MotoGP to lose this rider,” said Lorenzo in an interview with MotoGP's official site.

The Spaniard is currently 25 points behind Rossi in the overall standings, having himself recovered from some early-season injuries. Although he wasn't physically fit for racing in the British Grand Prix at Donington Park, he managed to keep Rossi behind him in the early stages of the race before stupidly crashing out of the race.

As for his chances to clinch a maiden MotoGP title this season, Lorenzo reckoned it would be extremely hard, especially since Rossi has proved to be in top form so far.

The championship is very, very hard to win it because Valentino has 25 points advantage and also he has the experience, to fight with me. Maybe I don't have enough experience but we have some little possibilities to win it so we will try,” added the Yamaha rider.
