The success of the Romanian built Dacia Logan and Sandero models is forcing French manufacturer Renault to think about tapping into segments of the automotive industry which were up until now off limits for the Mioveni-based brand it owns.
According to the latest rumor on the streets, Dacia and Renault will be showing both a Logan and a Sandero version at the Moscow Motor Show later this week with an until now never before seen feature on a Dacia model: an automatic transmission.
According to autoreleaseinfo.com, the conversion to an auto tranny was not difficult, because similar models manufactured by Nissan are already using such a gearbox in Mexico. Word is this configuration will be mainly sold in Russia, hence the choice of presenting the models in Moscow.
The news comes after a month ago rumor about Russia group AvtoVAZ being really close to producing a new line of vehicles based on Dacia's Logan platform. Although details on the project are not yet known, the decision to market the Logan in Russia as an AvtoVAZ model is a way to avoid the dislike Russians feel for Romanian models.
According to wheelosphere.org, after its introduction in Russia, the automatic Logan will begin being sold in Brazil and other developing markets, with Europe to receive the model at a later date. This configuration will use the car's 1.6l unit, while the automatic gearbox will be a four speed one.
Further details about the model are likely to surface soon, as this year's Moscow Motor Show kicks off this week.
