Loeb, Sordo Will Have Equal Status at Citroen in 2010

Dani Sordo will no longer have to play the lieutenant role for Sebastien Loeb for the 2010 season of the World Rally Championship. At least it won't happen from the beginning of the season, as confirmed by Citroen World Rally Team's boss Olivier Quesnel.

According to the French official, there are no plans to make Sordo the No 2 driver within the Citroen lineup, as long as the battle between them won't affect the team in the manufacturers' race. Additionally, one of the outfit's aims for the 2010 season is to see Sordo winning his maiden rally in the WRC, after so many years spent at Citroen.

This is the beginning of the season. I can't say at the start of the season, 'Dani, you have to stay back.' No, no. He can do his own race. But, both of them need to remember we need the manufacturers' championship. If they can remember that, then I have no problem. Honestly, all of the team, not me, even Seb will be pleased if Dani can win one rally and maybe more,” said Quesnel.

Last week, after Sordo's dominant run in the Arctic Rally, Quesnel revealed that Citroen wants Sordo to become a rally winner in 2010. Not only him, but also Loeb admitted that he would like to see his teammate add a rally win in his CV, especially after the help he provided the Frenchman with during the last season.

When trailing Mikko Hirvonen by 5 points in the standings and with only 2 rounds remaining, Loeb had a desperate need of Sordo's help during Rally de Catalunya, in order to recover 4 points from his Ford rival. The Spaniard saved the day with a second place in that event, after Loeb, giving his teammate a chance to win the world title in the last event of the season, in Great Britain.

That was actually what triggered Sordo's extension with Citroen for another season last year, as his deal with the French manufacturer was supposed to run out at the end of 2009.
