Loeb Ready to Ink 2-Year Extension with Citroen

Sebastien Loeb admitted that this was the toughest race to the World Rally Championship title in his entire career, as he managed to successfully defend his crown in the very last round of the season. Coming to Great Britain with a one-point deficit to Ford's Mikko Hirvonen, the Frenchman mastered the elements during the 3 days of action and won his second consecutive rally in the UK.

While admitting his immense happiness over the way the title fight ended this season, Loeb insisted he really feels sorry for his rival Mikko Hirvonen.

Mikko has been a big rival. He's always on the road, he never makes any mistakes and he's very fast everywhere. Today, we knew when we arrived here that one of us would be happy and the other disappointed,” said Loeb.

I said to him that neither one of us deserves to be disappointed, and now he is for sure. At the end of the last stage I said to him I'm bit sorry, and that's really what I feel. I know how he feels, but he has done a great season,” added the Citroen driver.

Now that his one-off in Formula One is out of the question, Loeb admitted that he'll take some weeks off to enjoy his 6th consecutive world title, after which he'll focus on signing a 2-year extension to his current Citroen deal. The Frenchman insisted that nothing has been signed just yeat, but that he wants to continue with the aforementioned manufacturer for another couple of years.

The contract is not actually signed, no, but it is desired. It’s with the lawyers now. The contract is for the next two years,” added Loeb, who also insisted that he wants to continue his WRC career to the point he'll no longer find it fun to compete.

I drive because I like to, so I’ll carry on as long as I feel that way. When I feel that I'm not motivated enough, maybe then I’ll stop. Having a fight like today though was really exciting. I enjoyed it a lot,” concluded Loeb.
