Loeb Receives the ‘Légion d’honneur’ from Nicolas Sarkozy

Sebastien Loeb's 5 consecutive World Rally Championship titles were not left unnoticed by the French nation. Considering his impressive achievements inside the world of rallying, Loeb was awarded the “Légion d’honneur” by the very President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy.

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, at the Elysée Palace in Paris. Loeb was therefore joined at the event by some members of his family, close friends and, last but not least, members of the PSA Group senior management.

The “Légion d’honneur” is the highest distinction that can be received by any individual in France, coming as a result of outstanding achievement from French citizens in any domain of activity, from politics, literature to sport also.

I am extremely honored to have been recognized in this way by the President of the Republic. This award is given to an individual, but I would like to share it with each and every member of the Citroën team,” said Loeb when receiving the aforementioned distinction.

Every time that we hear the French National Anthem played at the end of a rally, we all feel exactly the same pride at having showcased France to the best of all our abilities. I hope now that I can continue to worthily represent my country by claiming a sixth consecutive World Rally Championship title at the end of this year,” added the Frenchman.

Loeb is on his way to clinching his 6th consecutive WRC crown this year, as he won no less than 5 of the first 6 rallies in the 2009 schedule. Halfway to the end of the season, the Citroen driver is 17 points ahead of nearest rival, Ford's Mikko Hirvonen.
