Liuzzi Expects HRT Talks This Week

Vitantonio Liuzzi is looking for a quick response from Hispania Racing F1 Team in regards to a potential deal for the 2011 season of Formula 1. The Italian had been invited to test for the Spanish squad last weekend, in Barcelona, and his lap times were nothing short of impressive as compared to the other racers at the wheel of the HRT car, Narain Karthikeyan and Swiss 30-year-old Giorgio Mondini.

Talking about his situation at the moment, Liuzzi admitted that he expects a decision will be made this week. At the same time, he admitted that Hispania Racing is not the only team his management is holding talks to, but that this is of course top priority because he's dealing with the only race seat available for 2011.

We'll talk in the next few days and see what comes. It's open at the moment,” said the former Force India racer in a recent interview with the BBC. “We have a few things I'm working on, there are talks elsewhere (in F1) but we are not talking about driving as we know the only seat available is Hispania.”

In another interview with autohebdo.fr, Liuzzi said that this testing session with HRT was done just in case a deal will be worked out for the future, and revealed team principal Colin Kolles & Co were quite happy with his performance.

We'll see. We agreed to do this test to get acquainted and to see if there is a possibility for the future,” he said.

Just in case he signs a deal with the Spanish squad, it's more than likely that it will be based on money also, as both team owner Jose Ramon Carabante and team boss Kolles have recently admitted they need a driver who can bring some finances to the team's 2011 budget. The sum of money we're talking about is in the vicinity of EUR10 million.

Some of that money could be brought in by Liuzzi as part of his settlement with Force India. The Italian is still to reach an agreement with the Silverstone based team, with which he had a contract until the end of the 2011 season. As he was ousted one year before contract termination, the Italian is probably looking at some sort of financial retribution from Force India, although nothing was announced officially.
