It's definitely a good year for Lightning Motorcycles: first the 2013 PPIHC, and now setting a new land speed record at the speed trials in Bonneville, Utah. The new record now sits just above the 203 mph (326.6 km/h) mark, but things could be better.
According to Electric Race News, 2011 saw Lightning able to do past 217 mph (349.15 km/h), but this happened in an event not sanctioned by the AMA or the FIM (Southern California Timing Associated).  It's obvious that their bike could do much better,a nd the prospects in this direction are encouraging, to say the least.

The weather begged to differ this time as a very powerful storm put an early end to all the racing after transforming the salt flats into a lake.

Lightning's solar panel charging van was also successfully used, even though a contest for the best mobile charging station is yet to be created.
