Lexus has recently announced that it has ceased production of the Euro-spec IS. The end of the year will see new crash safety legislation come into effect and the automaker has decided not to upgrade its 3-Series rival in order to meet this.
The Japanese company will introduce a new generation of the IS next year and it was more cost effective to have a reduced range of vehicles rather than to invest in development for the aging model. Another argument for the decision was the fact that the current IS had been on the market since 2005, so sales were on a descendent trend.
You can still buy the current IS in Europe, as the dealers have a certain number of units on stock, but once these vehicles find owners, you’ll have to wait for the new one to arrive.
