Like many other automakers – from Abarth to Nissan and everyone in between- Toyota – the world's largest carmaker if Volkswagen didn't surprisingly pass their normal tally – is having a field day period at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon.
The main theme for Toyota, Toyota Gazoo Racing, and Lexus at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon is centered around the concept of 'Morizo Garage' – for three days (January 12-14) at the Makuhari Messe (in Chiba, Japan), they are paying homage to Akio Toyoda, (aka Morizo), by becoming "more passionate about cars together with all car lovers and create the future together with them."

As such, even though Toyoda is not pulling the strings as a CEO and president anymore, his (passionate) shadow remains cast over the company as a whole, and that's obviously reflected in the events at home in Japan – not just the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon but also the massive display from last year's inaugural edition of the Japan Mobility Show (formerly known for almost seven decades as Tokyo Motor Show).

More precisely, the exhibit is overarching, featuring everything from car parts to customization ideas and from new models to outdoor and motorsport vehicles. There's an entire roster in the Morizo Garage: Jimny, Vino, Century GRMN, GR Corolla Morizo Custom, iQ GRMN supercharger, and the most interesting of all – LBX Morizo RR Concept.

The outdoor and demo run area is packed with cool stuff like the GR Yaris Morizo Challenge Cup, GR Yaris Rally1 Hybrid, Subaru Impreza WRX STI, or AE86 Super Mame-go – but also features an old AE86 reworked as a BEV Concept with zero emissions that will go up against drifting driver Keiichi Tsuchiya's AE86 Super Mame-go in a gymkhana showdown to prove its EV worth.

The motorsport zone doesn't need a presentation – it features no less than six specialized vehicles from different competitions – and the new models and customization zone shines brightly as it takes the red carpet's spotlight. The main asset over there aside from the GR Yaris RR x GROW Concept, GR x GROW Design GR COROLLA, GR parts, and GR Heritage parts is – of course, the evolved GR Yaris now packing an optional eight-speed automatic transmission, 300 horsepower, more torque, and subtle tweaks inside and out.

But there is also a second exhibit in this part of the show that's worth mentioning – the Lexus RZ 450e F Sport Performance special edition. The luxury division will introduce a 100-unit limited variant of the RZ 450e, available only at home in Japan and exclusively offered through a lottery-based purchase system. Nationwide Lexus Japan dealerships are already accepting the applications, and the winners will be notified on February 22 of the option to enter purchase negotiations.

Based on last year's Tokyo Auto Salon RZ Sport Concept, this unique series was developed with input from air racing pilot Yoshihide Muroya and racing driver Masahiro Sasaki "to hone the model's aerodynamics and driving performance and to pursue a design rooted in function."
