While Lexus is about to unveil the open top RC F model at this year’s LA Auto Show, we were wondering if a shooting brake model would also make some sense. Luckily, we stumbled upon X-Tomi’s rendering here which digitally impersonates a more utilitarian sportscar.
Lexus has quite a short history with hatchback passenger cars. There was the first generation IS SporCross (basically a rebadged Toyota Altezza Gita from Japan) that got sold between 2003-2005 after which came the CT model, the smallest car the luxury automaker said it will ever offer.

But since the first one is basically an estate we can’t even consider it on our list. So if you want a Lexus hatchback now that isn’t an SUV or a crossover, you’ll end up with a hybrid CT200h, which is basically a Toyota Prius with a master’s degree if you start asking people.

An RC shooting brake would save the day, because it solves two problems - practicality and performance. You could get more space for the rear passengers as well as extra boot capacity, while the 3.5-liter V6 under the hood will surely meed and exceed daily requirements.

Also like to hit the track from time to time? The RC F shooting brake would be ideal for the job. And you could also fit some spare tires in it, because those 467 horses will rip the rear ones as soon as you burry your foot in the loud pedal.

Still, we're talking about a huge investment Lexus would have to put into a niche nobody else has, so your shooting brake will probably never happen. Hope that convertible version will be worthy.
