What If the Porsche Cayman Had 918 Spyder Taillights?

Do not allow yourselves to be fooled by the halo status of the 918 Spyder. The influence of this petrol-electric monster spreads far beyond the very lucky few who get to enjoy its charms.

For instance, Porsche’s latest all-new model, the Macan, sought inspiration in the 918 Spyder when it came to its steering wheel, as well as to its taillights. The wheel part solved an issue that had been haunting Porsches for years, so now you can finally get a steering wheel that offers both paddles and is multifunctional.

Moving to the taillights, the fresh styling made the rear lights of the Macan one of the car’s top destinations for your eyes to visit. But what if the same treatment was applied to, say, the Porsche Cayman?

The rendering above comes with a pretty good answer for that, showing us a current generation Cayman fitted with a pair of rear lights that resembles those on Porsche’s hybrid hypercar.

It’s interesting how the virtual job appears to make the Cayman even more understated than it already is, while also bringing it close to the robotic look area Audi has become known for.

What happens in real life

Then again, this is pure fantasy, so don’t expect the 981 Cayman to start wearing his (really) big brother’s accessories anytime soon. What the most compact coupe in Porsche’s current range will get though is an insanely hardcore GT4 version.

Any Porsche sportscar is basically a good friend of the track, but the GT4 will be a circuit demon. For one thing, rumor has it the this uber-Cayman will be built at Porsche’s Weissach site that brings the GT3 to life.

Nothing is trully official yet, but the flat six at the rear should develop up to 400 hp and yes, this means the Cayman GT4 will go straight into 911 territory. It’s only normal for Porsche to allow this, since the hermetical nature of this Cayman means it;s not exactly a competitor for the 911 Carrera S.
