Power is nothing without control, but power is nothing without… enough power. The cool thing about Japan's BMW M4 "killer" is that it's got plenty of power and plenty of motor. The RC F has not received its true US market rating, but when it came on stage in Detroit yesterday "more than 450 hp and 383 lb-ft" was revealed to be its output.
So what do we think think of this sports coupe from the Land of the Rising Sun? For starters, it's got one amazing interior. Lexus always makes these timeless dashes that look like a premium Panasonic cassette player from the 90s. All the buttons are big, square and easy to reach. The seats are also the most amazing ones we've ever seen in this class.
The exterior is where things really get interesting. This is a "love it or hate it sort of car". It's like the IS, but a lot more aggressive. We're glad, however, that note a single panel has been copied from its rivals.
Another cool feature about the RC F is that it's engine is a bit like that on a Prius. The 5-liter V8 runs on the Atkinson cycle under most circumstances, which is better for economy. When you're in the mood to go fast, it switches back to Otto cycle for more power. How have they done that? We honestly don't know, but it's probably and advanced electronic valve control system.
As a BMW fighter, we give the RC F an A for effort. Let's hope it drives as well as it's supposed to.
