The Volkswagen Beetle has always had a playful nature about it, despite its Nazi roots. The way it integrated itself in the “Flower Power” subculture and kept its aura over the years has probably inspired most carmakers, yet no one was able to mimic the “Beetleness" completely.
Despite having a slightly shorter history than Volkswagen, the LEGO Group's rise as one of the most famous toy makers in the world is equally impressive. Put them together and the result should be glorious, which is a pretty good word to describe how this surfer-themed Volkswagen Beetle LEGO kit looks.

The detailed LEGO Creator Expert reproduction of a 1960s Beetle is so detailed that it even includes the flat-four engine in the rear and a fuel tank, along with the Volkswagen logo and the distinctive hubcaps. Even the beige-colored seats can be tilted forward for easy access to the rear, just like in the real car.

Painted in a very surfer-friendly azure-blue, the kit comes with a LEGO surfboard, a fabric beach towel, and a cooler box for those hot days at the beach.

No less than four different license plates that come as stickers are available, so you can change between them when you're planning to photograph the car and make it look like you have more than one.

The built model measures 15 cm (5.9 in) in height, about 29 cm (11.4 in) in length and 12 cm (4.7 in) in width, so it isn't really in scale with other official LEGO cars, but that should only be a problem for die-hard collectors.

Made from 1,167 pieces, most of which being free to use on other LEGO reproductions of your choice, the surfing Beetle LEGO kit will be available for purchase starting August 1. Pricing is set at $99.99 in the U.S., CA $129.99 in Canada and 89.99 euros on the Old Continent, although prices will probably vary from country to country.

You can either buy it directly through LEGO online or from the thousands of physical LEGO stores around the world.
