At the end of 2017, news of German auto group Volkswagen interest in the rapid growth of the Chinese electric vehicle market surfaced. Together with its local partner, Jianghuai Automobile Corporation, Volkswagen plans to invest some $12 billion over the next seven years in the Asian country.
According to the representatives of the joint venture, no less than 40 new electric vehicles will be introduced on the Chinese market in the next few years. Production of the first models to roll out assembly lines in China is expected to start in the first few months of 2018.
Car News China has unearthed images of what it appears to be one of the first models in that long line of EVs. The image of the vehicle was apparently leaked from a patent drawing, and it shows a car not so different than the JAC iEV7S, launched in October last year by the Chinese automaker. Look closely, and its actually identical with the SEAT Arona.
There is no official information about the vehicle yet, apart from the fact that it will be marketed in China under the local version of the SEAT brand. Since the differences are all that great between the two vehicles, we can assume they will use pretty much the same technologies.
IEV7S uses a high ratio energy ternary lithium battery with a 39Kwh capacity which gives it a range of 350 km (217 miles). It can be charged to full capacity, says JAC, within one and a half hours. The motor has 85kw of torque. The IEV7S has been developed in collaboration with the Germans, who contributed to the chassis of the car.
As for the technologies available for the car, it comes complete with an 8-inch multimedia touch screen and the possibility to be diagnosed in case of failure or tracked via a smart-phone app. Automatic night lighting and pedestrian warning system are also featured.
