It looks like British firm Land Rover has a lot of room in its sleeves, as they’ve already impressed everybody this year with the Range Rover Evoque and the fact that you can buy it as a two-door as well. The year has been packed with news of the Defender’s death, but they were premature, as the automaker has come up with a way to bring back the off-roading legend.
We’ve noticed a lot of hatred building up for the DC100 Concept revealed a couple of weeks ago, and this is a given because of the radical departure from the past it represents. The hat mail is bound to intensify after we show you Land Rover’s latest concept: the Defender DC100 Sport, a two-door, no roof version of the concept, which was shown today in Frankfurt.
Both of these vehicles "build on the essential elements of the Defender's character,” meaning the flexibility of the platform is back, and it’s offering people what they want... these days.
Land Rover talks about freedom, light weight and materials taken from the aerospace industry, but this is the norm for a car car that has has no roof and people can look inside whenever they please.
Just like the DC100, this has permanent all-wheel drive, the latest 8-speed automatic box, Intelligent Start Stop and a transfer case. The engines that are fitted on these concepts are 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrols and diesels with hybrid and plug-in version on the table.
Forget about the silly Nissan CrossCabrio, this is the only open-top SUV you’ll want if it goes into production. Land Rover should definitely hurry things along a bit more, because we bet people will want to buy it right now.
