Land Rover's UK Sales Were Up 28% in 2010

Britain’s famous 4x4 maker announced new vehicles registrations of over 42,000 in the UK last year. The figure is 28% higher compared to the previous year, when 33,000 vehicles were sold. All models performed well, with the Freelander up 37%, Range Rover up 29% and Discovery up 27%.

"Increasingly, customers are looking at the bigger picture and considering the overall cost of car ownership before making a purchase decision. Improved fuel economy, combined with excellent residual values, has helped grow Land Rover sales and increase the brand's share of the UK 4x4 market,"
stated Land Rover UK managing director, Colin Green in a press release announcing the results.

The main reason for the increase in sales is the positive response for 2011 MY vehicles and the better fuel efficiency across the range. Many British customers opted for the most economic model in the model lineup, the Freelander 2 TD4_e, which uses Land Rover's Intelligent Stop Start technology to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20% in urban traffic.

"Whilst the retail environment may remain challenging, 2011 will see us build on last year's excellent sales results. We will continue to invest in new product, not least with the launch of the New Range Rover Evoque later in the year," Green also said. The model will be officially revealed for the UK public today and should be manufactured at Land Rover's plant in Halewood, Liverpool, creating 1500 new jobs in the process.

Potential customers and the automotive press will get a look at the Evoque at this evening’s London Boat Show, where it will be revealed by Land Rover brand director, John Edwards and Land Rover designer director, Gerry McGovern. Hundreds of orders have already been placed by British buyers that have never even seen the vehicle in real life.
