Land Rover Posts 42 Percent Sales Increase in May

Land Rover continued to follow a rising sales trend in May, as the company saw its global sales surge by 42.3 percent last month, compared to the same period of last year. The British automaker managed to sell a total of 15,181 vehicles in May 2010.

All of Land Rover’s global markets have posted a sales increased compared to May 2009, bringing the company’s year to date sales reaching a 36.5 percent increase, over the same period of 2009.

The top five markets for May 2010 (versus May 2009) are: the UK (up 64 per cent to 3,040 units), North America ( up 24 percent to 2,935 vehicles), China (up 104 percent to 2,026 cars), Italy (up 25.9 percent to 1,133 units) and the Middle East & North Africa (up 28.7 percent to 812 vehicles).

The automaker’s sales on its domestic market registered a 64 percent growth in May, reaching a total volume of 3,040 units, bringing the year-to-date statistics to a total of 20,000 units. The figure can be translated into a 60 percent surge, compared to the same period of last year.

The company's strongest performer in the UK is the Range Rover, which posted a 121 percent increase in vehicle registrations, while the Freelander 2 continued to be the carmaker’s best-seller with a 60 percent improvement over May 2009. The Discovery 4 was up 87 percent, the Range Rover Sport posted a 58 percent growth and the Defender was up by 32 percent.

Sales have been improving consistently since the launch of the 2010 model year range – which boasts the latest, most efficient, and technologically advanced line-up for Land Rover in its history," stated the press release.
