Lamborghini Urus to Ditch V12 in Favor of Twin-Turbo V8

The original Lamborghini SUV, the amazing(-ly thirsty) LM002 was an awesome piece of kit. It featured two V12 engines throughout its lifespan, the 5.4-liter from the Countach and a bigger 7.2-liter unit on a few examples. Sadly, though, Lambo’s new SUV will not feature a howling V12.
The Urus concept was first shown last month at the Beijing Motor Show to generally positive public and press reactions. It looks good and since Lamborghini engineers are trying to keep the weight extremely low (for an SUV) it will most likely outperform all other SUVs on the road. In keeping with this low weight philosophy, any hopes of a V10 or V12 under the Urus’ bonnet can be put to rest, as Maurizio Reggiani has been quoted by Autonews as saying that the new twin-turbo V8 currently powering Audi’s large RS line and (recently) the Bentley Continental GT.

The engine itself has been praised and we have no doubt that it’s a good V8 engine but the, in our opinion, the Urus would have deserved a great V12 under its sloping bonnet.
