Despite its short-lived production run, the SportClassic was a genuine warrior. Thus, it’s always nice to see workshops making the most of their chance to customize one.
The project we’ll be examining today may not be as extensive as some of the custom bikes we’ve admired in the past, but it’s just as handsome! The authors behind this remarkable exploit go by the name of FCR Original – an ambitious enterprise located in the French town of Chauvigny. Let’s dive in for a closer analysis of the workshop’s accomplishments on a 2006 model from Ducati’s SportClassic 1000 lineup, shall we?
For starters, you should know the Ducati donor bike is put in motion by an air-cooled L-twin leviathan that boasts a healthy displacement of 992cc. At about 8,000 revs, this piece of Italian machinery will be more than happy to summon as much as 90 hp, while a respectable torque output of no less than 67 pound-feet (91 Nm) will be supplied at 6,000 rpm. A six-speed transmission is tasked with feeding the mill’s monstrous force to the rear 17-inch wheel by means of a chain final drive.
Now, although FCR’s colossus may not host any bespoke bodywork modules, we can probably all agree that the chosen paint scheme does look the part. The Frenchmen went about applying a mix of black and glossy gold (known as Black Gold Candy) to the machine’s stock body panels, including its front fender, fuel tank, and tail section.
Furthermore, this sexy color pattern is complemented by gold accents on the SportClassic’s engine, clip-on handlebars and grips, as well a selection of golden decals applied to the gas tank and tail. The stock hoops were discarded in favor of laced counterparts from Alpina’s range; their rims and hubs were treated to an orange finish, while those black spokes bring about a healthy deal of juicy contrast to the whole structure.
As for powertrain upgrades, France’s moto artists undertook the painstaking task of manufacturing a one-off stainless-steel exhaust system in-house. This bad boy doesn’t just unlock some extra ponies; it will also produce a tasty exhaust note that’ll soothe any self-respecting rider’s ears.
Lastly, the finishing touches come in the form of a reupholstered saddle and LED rear lighting strip, which keeps things clutter-free. To wrap it all up, the beast was named “La Rage”.
