This announcement has been made by Mark Fields, the Blue Oval's new CEO. It's been less than a month side Mark took over the Ford Motor Company's reigns from Alan Mulally, yet the new numero uno is already trying to get Ford's luxury division back on track.
James Farley, the man who's been leading the Lincoln brand since 2012, will still hold a top marketing position, while Ford engineer Kumar Galhotra will take the new seat from September 1st, 2014. Ford CEO Mark Fields declared: "Now is the right time for the next chapter in accelerating Lincoln as a world-class luxury brand. Kumar has more than 25 years of global product and business experience, including leading engineering for all of our Lincoln vehicles today."
Besides his vast experience in engineering, Galhotra is a pretty apt product executive thanks to its stint as head of Ford's Asia Pacific product development from 2009 to 2013. Moreover, the new prez has been the mastermind behind Mazda's 2005 - 2008 worldwide product planning. “These changes underscore our commitment to build on the success of our One Ford plan by accelerating our pace of progress,” Mark Fields commented. “They also make clear we are serious about Lincoln as a world-class luxury brand and that product excellence and innovation are what will deliver growth and define our entire company going forward.”
Aside from Kumar Galhotra, Fields has also announced that Paul Mascarenas will retire on October 1st after 32 years of commitment to the company. The chief technical officer role will be filled by Ken Washingtion, the top researcher from Lockheed Martin's space program, which will take the job as soon as August 18th, 2014. Jim Holland, Ford Asia Pacific engineering director, will be filling Kumar Galhotra's current position as vice president of vehicle component and system engineering on the 1st of September.
