Kubica: "Renault Wants Experienced Drivers, Not Rookies"

After securing his 2010 seat with Renault F1 Team, Robert Kubica gave the media a little insight on who exactly his new team is planning to field alongside him in the upcoming season. According to the Polish driver, the Enstone based outfit will try to sign a more experienced driver for 2010, rather than give the wheel of the Renault R30 to a rookie driver.

“I think there are quite a few names, quite experienced, which Renault is looking at for the next year,” said Kubica to the Brazilian reporters on Thursday.

If the information is indeed true, that means neither Romain Grosjean, nor Lucas di Grassi will have a shot at making the 2010 grid with Renault. While the former was already rumored to be ousted by the French team due to his former links with disgraced manager Flavio Briatore – he was championed by the 59-year old Italian in the past – Di Grassi was believed to hold a high chance of making his F1 debut at Enstone next year.

As for the drivers' market, there are plenty of competitors Renault could choose from in the upcoming weeks. At first glance, they have Nick Heidfeld, Timo Glock and probably Heikki Kovalainen, as these are currently the only drivers not linked with a serious job proposition for next season.

Nevertheless, Kubica insisted that he won't make any suggestions to Renault regarding his future teammate. That's probably because he won't be there at Enstone two years from now, as it is rumored he only signed a one-year deal with the French manufacturer last week. The Pole denied the speculations that he plans to move to Ferrari in 2011, but also did not want to disclose the period of time for which he signed with Renault.
