Heidfeld Frustrated With Lack of 2010 Seat

Nick Heidfeld has not managed to secure his seat for the upcoming season of Formula One, and the fact that his teammate Robert Kubica did can only frustrate him even more. Despite being one of the highest rated drivers in the series, the German driver's future in F1 is in doubt, as no team seems to consider him for 2010.

Heidfeld let all of his frustration go during an interview with Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, saying that his “good boy” image in the sport is the main cause for his failure to secure a 2010 deal. Compared to his situation, Robert Kubica – whom he beat both in 2007 and this year – has had plenty of offers to leave BMW at the end of 2009.

“In terms of the public perception, I am behind drivers who are not as good as me. In 2007 I was faster than Robert and I am again now. But everyone talks only of 2008. I would have thought logic would prevail in formula one, but unfortunately your image is not only the result of numbers,” said Heidfeld in the aforementioned interview.

Kubica eventually went for a one-year deal with Renault, after which he is rumored to join Ferrari in 2011 (when Felipe Massa's contract will run out). Heidfeld's best option of remaining in the series, however, is linked to a potential entry granted to his current BMW Sauber outfit by the FIA for next season.

Heidfeld is best known in Formula One for his consistency, as he currently holds the world record for the highest number of consecutive completed races in the sport. The German driver's incredible streak ended at 42, following Adrian Sutil's “stupid” crash (into him) during the Singapore Grand Prix.
